Birla College of Science and Birla College of Education were established in 1968 as two separate Institutions. In 1969 the two Institutions were amalgamated into one College under the name of Birla College of Science and Education.
With effect from the 1st July 1987, it is renamed as Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose College, by the name of great scientist, Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose. This is a Govt. aided Educational Institution under the pay packet scheme of the State Govt. of West Bengal, India and affiliated to Calcutta University.
The college is also listed for grants under the 2(f) & 12(B) scheme of the University Grants Commission, Govt. of India.
In 1968 Birla College of Science and Birla College of Education were established at 2, Moira Street, Kolkata-17, as two separate Institutions by the first provisional Governing Body formed for the purpose. The University of Calcutta granted affiliation w.e.f. 1968-69 session.

Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose
Pioneering Indian Scientist & Polymath (1858 - 1937)
Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose was a pioneering Indian scientist, polymath, physicist, biologist, biophysicist, botanist, and archaeologist. He made significant contributions to the study of radio waves and is considered one of the fathers of radio science.
Our college proudly bears the name of this extraordinary scientist, honoring his legacy of scientific excellence, innovative thinking, and dedication to research and education.
